Labiaplasty - Labial Reduction

    • Reduces the size of inner labia or inner genital lips
    • Team of leading specialist Cosmetic Surgeons
    • Outstanding patient care before, during and after your procedure

Every woman is unique in that the shape of their labia will vary from person to person.

It is common nowadays for women to feel dissatisfied with their labia minora or the inner lips of her vagina especially if they are particularly long and protruding. In such cases, women are simply unhappy with the way their genitalia look and it can be very embarrassing especially when it leads to discomfort when wearing swimsuits and sexual dissatisfaction.

Women who have exceptionally long or unequal lengths of labia minora can have them aesthetically reshaped.

What is involved in a Labial Reduction Surgery?

Labial reduction is performed at Kingsbridge Private Hospital under general anaesthetic. Labial reduction surgery can be done in two ways. The aim of surgery is to trim the inner fold so that they do not protrude anymore. The first way is to reduce the edges of the labia and the second way is to snip out a v shape surgically. The remaining edges are sewn back in order to obtain a look that is as natural as possible.

How long will Labial Reduction Surgery take?

Surgery will normally take around one to two hours. The surgery is usually carried out under General anaesthetic which means you will be asleep and not feel pain. Depending on the recommendation of you consult, local anaesthetic with sedation may be used in some patients.

What should I expect from Labial Reduction Surgery?

This surgery will make the genitalia look much more normal. In most cases, the surgery is undetectable after healing with minimal scaring. Most patients are pleased with the results from this type of surgery.

Recovering from Labial Reduction Surgery?

After surgery it is normal to experience mild discomfort and swelling for the first two weeks. You will wear a panty liner after the procedure. Labial incisions heal quickly and the scars will rarely be noticeable. Sutures will dissolve on their own so physical removal is unnecessary. You should avoid vigorous exercise for the first two weeks and vaginal intercourse for a month following the procedure.

What are the risks associated with Labial Reduction Surgery?

All types of surgery involve risks. There will always be a possibility for complications. Complications are extremely rare and can be specific to each person. Your surgeon will discuss these with you in full before you have the procedure.

Complications that are common with all types of surgery include:

  • infection
  • hostile reaction to anaesthesia
  • excessive bleeding
  • prolonged healing of wounds
  • scarring
  • unsatisfactory results
  • a need for a second, third, or more corrective procedures
  • incision separation
  • under correction or over correction
  • pain after the surgery

Am I suitable for a Labial Reduction Surgery?

Women who have enlarged or irregular labia should consider having labial reduction. This kind of irregularity can be embarrassing, uncomfortable, and can lead to sexual dissatisfaction or difficulty for many women. Labial reduction at Kingsbridge Private Hospital reduces the size of inner labia or inner genital lips. Results will be permanent.

Preparing for surgery and recovery

At your consultation it is important that you inform your surgeon about:

  • allergies that you may have such as food, drugs, or environmental elements
  •  If you experience any pain following the surgery, you may have to take prescription medication as directed from your surgeon.

How long does it take to resume normal activities following surgery?

You can resume activities and exercising after two months from the procedure. However, it is still best to consult with your surgeon as to when to resume day-to-day activities and exercise.

When will you be able to return to work?

There are patients who return to work after a week from the procedure. Other patients take two to three weeks before they can resume normal activities.
