BLOG : Meet The Queen's Elite Athletes - Conor Clarke

Kingsbridge Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic works in partnership with the athletes, coaching staff and fitness teams at Queen’s Sport, Queen’s University in Belfast. As we enter the final semester we wanted to shine a light on some of the students and Elite Athletes that we are delighted to support.

Next up is Conor Clarke, Full Time International Business Masters Student from Belfast and Elite Athlete (Golf) at Queen's.

Are you a morning person and if so what’s the first thing you do when you waken up?

Not unless I have an early tee time, but the first thing I do is stretch.


What’s your favourite meal time of the day and what are you most likely to have on your plate?

Breakfast - sausages, eggs and toast with some honey porridge.


Is nutrition important to you and if so do you take any health supplements daily?

Definitely. I take creatine, iron, vitamin D and magnesium. 


How many times a week do you go to the gym, what is you least desirable exercise and why?

3 times a week and definitely Russian twists.


Have you ever been injured through your sport? If so, what happened to you and how long were you recovering?

I am currently injured with a torn knee. I have surgery tomorrow so depending on how that goes it should be +/- 9 months.


What do you do to relax?

Read, play PlayStation and go out with friends.


What other sport do you think you might excel in and why?

I used to play a lot of hurling and at one point it was my main sport, however when I started to get to a lot better at golf it was too difficult to manage this time.


How many hours sleep to you get on average and do you think this is enough?

Currently about 9/10.


What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not who someone else is today.


Over the next 12 to 18 months what are your overall objectives whilst being on the Elite Athlete Programme at Queen’s?

To come back from my injury stronger. To have an improved mindset on and off the course.


What do you love most about being a student on the course?

The access to Kingsbridge (especially when injured) as well as the staff on the Queen's Sport Team. I think being able to work with Hugh has also been a massive help for myself in the last year.


Who are your biggest Influencers in Sport and in Life?

Sport - Padraig Harrington

Life - My brother


How did you hear about the EAP Programme at Queens?

My friend from Trinity was actually the one to tell me about it.


How do you find the support from Kingsbridge Physiotherapy Clinic and being able to avail of Athlete Profiling?

It has been a great help with my training in the gym.
