Kingsbridge Part Funds New Pandemic Study in Northern Ireland Led By Ulster University

08th, Sep 2022

Kingsbridge Healthcare Group is supporting a new study which has been launched in Northern Ireland exploring Covid-19 exposure and immunity as well as investigating the genetic risk factors for symptoms.

Led by Ulster University Schools of Biomedical Science and Engineering using their new Covid-19 app and the UK Government Rapid Test Consortium’s highly sensitive lateral flow test, the project team hope to recruit 3,000 participants.

Mark Regan, CEO at Kingsbridge Private Hospitals said:

“It is a privilege to be able to play our part to assist with the Ulster University PANDEMIC study and provide the consumables needed for these tests, as well as allowing our facilities at Kingsbridge Maypole Clinic in Holywood to be used by the team to carry out their research.

“I’ve no doubt this will indeed have a positive outcome in helping government make informed choices in the future with regards to recovery plans, future outbreaks or vaccine success once one is developed.”

Volunteers between the ages of 18 to 90, whether they have had Covid-19 or not can register their interest by downloading the Ulster University COVID-19 smartphone app or email pandemicstudy@ulster.ac.uk

Participants will undergo a very simple pin prick test and receive their results within 15 mins. Those who test positive will be invited for a blood test which will allow DNA to be stored and analysis to be performed to look for genetic factors.
