Kingsbridge Healthy Heart Habits

01st, Feb 2023

In line with National Heart Health Month this February our Kingsbridge staff kindly shared their Healthy Heart Habits & Tips.

A healthy heart is central to overall good health, so making healthy habits to protect your heart is extremely important. So what do you consciously do to keep your heart healthy? At Kingsbridge Private Hospital Group our staff share their healthy heart habits and tips below:

“It’s really simple! Eat well, exercise and don’t take up smoking!” - Dr Roger Brown, Private GP at Kingsbridge North West

“Eat healthy to stay fit and well, stay as active as possible to reduce the chance of disease, walk every day for a healthy heart, keep an eye on Blood Pressure to be proactive in seeking medical advice and check cholesterol regularly to remedy it if raised” - Ruth Scott, Theatre Manager & Hospital Clinical Lead at Kingsbridge Sligo

“My healthy heart habit is meditation! I do it every day. When we are very stressed and anxious that triggers our fight or flight response in our bodies and triggers cardiovascular stress so meditation can really help reduce that and the likelihood of that as well.” - Conor Rooney, Team Leader at Kingsbridge Opticians & Hearing Care

“Heart healthy habits… eat healthy foods to avoid high cholesterol, get active, good sleep and enjoy the day!” - Remy Thomas, Receptionist at Kingsbridge Belfast

“To keep my heart healthy I like to laugh, I practice relaxation, meditation and mindfulness!” - Christopher Dawson, Nursing Assistant at Kingsbridge North West

“I like to carry my Fit-bit, especially whenever I am in work because we do a lot of steps. We like to have challenges among the nurses to see who can complete the most steps in a day and I like to try and jog a couple of times a week.” - Jodie Donaghy, Senior Nurse at Kingsbridge North West

"My healthy hart habit is that I go for daily walks!" - Ceara Carleton, Front of House Advisor at Kingsbridge Belfast

"To keep my heart healthy I go to a gym class once a week.”
“To keep my heart healthy I try to go swimming as many times as I can throughout the week.”
“To keep my heart healthy I try to get 8 hours of sleep a night.” - Donna Gavigan, Robert Wheeldon & Alison Dunwoody, Pharmacists at Kingsbridge North West

What can you do?

Throughout February our staff will also be taking part in 'The 291 Challenge' as part of our Wellbeing the Kingsbridge Way! Teams will cover the 291 miles it would take to travel from Kingsbridge Belfast to Sligo via Ballykelly and back again!

Why not do the same with your own colleagues, friends and family. Pick a destination and aim to walk, joy, run or skip (whatever you enjoy) the distance within the month of February.

We wish everyone the best of luck and hope this friendly challenge will encourage a new healthy habit into your daily routines!
