Non-surgical radio frequency treatments to help with urinary incontinence and vaginal laxity
“Urinary incontinence is the unintentional passing of urine. It’s a common problem thought to affect millions of people.” – NHS UK
There are several types of urinary incontinence, including:
It’s also possible to have a mixture of both stress and urge urinary incontinence.
Stress incontinence is usually the result of the weakening of or damage to the muscles used to prevent urination, such as the pelvic floor muscles and the urethral sphincter.
Certain things can increase the chances of urinary incontinence, including:
Kingsbridge Private Hospital Group offer non-surgical treatments which can help with incontinence including Viveve.
Our urinary incontinence treatments are carried out by highly trained and experienced medical professionals.
Viveve uses radio-frequency deep-heating energy to stimulate your body’s natural collagen formation process. Specially patented cryogen surface cooling technology allows enough heat to be delivered into the vaginal tissue without harming the delicate surface.
How is the treatment delivered?
A small treatment tip, about the size of your thumb, is inserted just inside the vaginal opening. The tip is rotated as it alternately cools the surface and heats the soft tissue beneath. Treatment is painless and takes about 30 – 60 minutes Over the next few months, your body responds to the treatment by generating new collagen and elastin in the vaginal opening.
Is the Viveve treatment safe and effective?
Yes! Clinical studies have shown that the Viveve treatment is safe as well as effective.
What are the results for vaginal laxity and urinary incontinence?
Women feel the full effect after 90 days. Clinical trials show 90% of the women treated for vaginal laxity reported statistically significant tightening, sensation and satisfaction at 12 months. A recent pilot study in women with stress urinary incontinence reported over 90% improvement.
Who can have the Viveve treatment?
Your doctor will determine if Viveve is right for you given your medical history, However, you should NOT consider Viveve if you have an implantable pacemaker or an Automatic Implantable Cardioverter/Defibrillator (AICD) or any other implantable metal device.
Who performs the treatment?
The Viveve treatment is performed by a trained healthcare practitioner at Kingsbridge Private Hospital Group.

On 19th June 2018, Viveve announced impressive results from a recent study on the Geneveve treatment for stress incontinence.
In this recent Canadian study, 36 women with stress incontinence were treated with Geneveve and followed up 6 months later. Results included: pad-weight testing (which measures urine leakage onto an absorbent sanitary pad), combined with patient completed symptom and quality of life questionnaires.
83% of women experienced a significant reduction in urinary leaks with similar improvement in symptoms and quality of life scores.
For women affected by stress incontinence this can mean less worry about embarrassing leaks, reduced usage of sanitary pads, improved self-confidence, and the ability to get back to normal activities. And an added benefit… Geneveve has also been clinically proven to tighten the vaginal tissues and improve sexual function.
Cosmetech, Kingsbridge Private Hospital is the only clinic in Ireland offering the Geneveve treatment.
Dr Patrick Campbell from Cosmetech, has been asked by Viveve to present the findings of this recent study at an international conference in Barcelona next month.
Dr Campbell commented, ‘The results of this study are extremely encouraging. Geneveve offers women the option of a clinically proven, painless, non-surgical treatment for stress incontinence with no recovery period.’
ThermiVa is a new non-surgical treatment that rejuvenates the vagina and vulva without plastic surgery.
Used to treat:
ThermiVa Q & A
How does ThermiVa work?
ThermiVa works by delivering radio frequency to both the internal vaginal canal and the external labia. The tissue is heated to specific temperatures, encouraging the growth of new collagen, increased blood flow and improved nerve supply. ThermiVa is FDA approved for skin tightening, however patients also report increased sensation, moisture and improvement in symptoms of stress and urinary incontinence.
How long is the treatment?
The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes and requires no downtime. The typical protocol for ThermiVa treatments is three treatments, spaced four weeks apart. Many women see improvement in vaginal tightening after the first treatment, but optimal results will be observed three months after the third treatment.
How long do ThermiVa results last?
The need to re-treat will be based on individual needs and expectations. In addition, both genetic and environmental factors such as smoking, weight gain/obesity and hormones will affect ageing of the vaginal tissue. The majority of women will need one treatment per year as maintenance.
What’s the difference between ThermiVa and lasers?
ThermiVa uses RF, or radiofrequency, whereas other machines use a CO2 laser. Both cause rejuvenation effects to the vaginal area. The difference is that ThermiVa can also be used on the labia and clitoral area and is not painful.
Can ThermiVa help vaginal looseness and sagging?
The answer to your question really depends on your clinical examination. The important part of the examination is to determine if there is any sagging or loss of support of the pelvic organs (the bladder, uterus, and rectum). If there is a mild degree of loss of support or vaginal looseness, then ThermiVa has been shown to help offer relief and provide vaginal tightening.

“The most obvious improvement after my first treatment was that for the first time in decades I have been able to sleep through the night without getting up to use the bathroom at 3am or 4am.”
“After having my second baby last year, my pelvic floor muscles were just not the same as they were. I was nervous about going to the gym. Even a short run was something I had to ‘come prepared for’. But since I’ve had my ThermiVa® treatments I can do my circuit training and squats again, without any worries, or surgery.”
Patient Testimonials
"I am extremely happy with the treatment, and with the standard of care I have received. There is no doubt as to whether this treatment is highly effective. I have had several cosmetic surgeries (although not on my face) but can say in comparing the results of the Spring Thread procedure with other less invasive treatments, the results are more in keeping with the surgical procedures I have had." Spring Thread Patient Review, Cosmetech at Kingsbridge Patient
"I had surgery here at the weekend and I can't recommend this place highly enough. They took great care of me and kept me at ease throughout my stay. The staff were brilliant, really friendly and chatted away and the food was top class. This hospital was better than any hotel I wonder could I book a weekend away in it when I fully recover?" Mr McGinnity, Kingsbridge Patient

"Can’t praise Kingsbridge Private Hospital enough!! I had an operation a couple of weeks ago and I was so well looked after. My surgeon Mr Rashid was fantastic, and the nursing staff was also fabulous. I found they communicated very well to each other, so everyone knew when my meds were due, my allergies etc. They were so kind, so lovely, constantly checked to see how I was i.e. my temperature etc. The food was fabulous and the catering staff very helpful having had an operation were very happy to accommodate ... Thank you to all!" Ms Cheong, Kingsbridge Patient
"Staff very friendly and very efficient. Surgeon and surgery top class. Big thanks to the Nurses for all their care and patience" Mr Howard, Kingsbridge Patient
"I was in your facility yesterday for a day procedure (operation on my left arm). I wanted to write and express how impressed I was with the facilities and more importantly the staff on the Ward.
Everyone was excellent, and I mean excellent, i don't normally write congratulatory e-mails so this is high praise in my view. The Senior nurse was excellent, as was the Theatre nurse and the anaesthetist. Even the assistants that helped with catering and other duties. All came together to form a great impression of the establishment." Jason Carpal Tunnel Surgery, Kingsbridge Patient
"Very well satisfied with everyone at my appointment - firstly with reception who were very friendly and helpful, secondly with Mr Cusick who took his time to explain everything to me and finally One2One with Rose who organised the dates for my pre op and operation. I would highly recommend Kingsbridge Private Hospital." Patient Review, Orthopaedic Clinic
"When I attended Kingsbridge Private Hospital on the 14th May for a knee replacement the care I got was fantastic from entering the door until I was discharged on the 16th May. The surgeon Mr Laurence Cusick and his team was absolutely fantastic, the nurses and the rest of the team you couldn’t ask for better and the food was very good" Paitent Review , Knee Replacement Clinic
"My first knee replacement was October 2023, and this was done the manual way. The pre and post op was fantastic for both! There was almost no pain in my hip or rest of my body after the second surgery which was a huge difference compared to my first knee. I was able to continue my physio as normal and I noticed I had more movement a lot sooner with my second knee, the robotic assisted. I could not thank the staff enough and Mr McCaffrey for how kind and understanding, attentive they were. From the beginning, I felt heard, and understood. The nurses, the caterers, the physios, the doctors, pharmacists, it is top class care! Overall, in summary, I would highly recommend going for robotic assisted. It’s still a serious surgery, so pain is to be expected and recovery is not going to be rosy, but it is worth it. The relief I have now in both knees, walking without that bone-on-bone pain, I am grateful. And the robotic assisted was a noticeably less painful, faster recovery.
