Mr O’Neill is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon working in the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust, based at both the Royal Victoria Hospital and Musgrave Park Hospital. He has a sub-specialist interest in the assessment and management of adult hip and knee pain.

Mr O’Neill graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2004 and commenced his surgical training rotation the following year, obtaining membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2007. He completed a diploma in Sports & Exercise Medicine in 2008 and was awarded membership of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine (UK) in 2009. He obtained fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCSEd T&O) in 2016 and completed his specialist Orthopaedic training in Northern Ireland in 2018.

He has completed a 2 year Hip & Knee Arthroplasty Fellowship in Musgrave Park Hospital under the supervision of Professor D Beverland and a 1 year Hip and Knee Surgery Fellowship in the internationally renowned Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, UK.

During his Fellowship, Mr O’Neill regularly participated in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and worked as a clinical anatomy demonstrator in the University of Oxford. On completion of his Fellowship, Mr O’Neill was appointed as a Consultant Hip & Knee surgeon in the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre where he worked before returning to his current post in Belfast.

Mr O’Neill maintains an interest in research with multiple publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences. In 2016, he was awarded the McKee Prize by the British Hip Society for research related to optimising component orientation during Total Hip Replacement surgery. Mr O’Neill provides a friendly, professional and patient-centred approach to care, with a focus on patient safety and clinical excellence.
