Alastair Lewis is a Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon at Craigavon Area Hospital. In recent years, Honorary Lecturer in Surgery at Queens University, Belfast and an examiner at the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland.

Mr Lewis has extensive training in keyhole and cosmetic vein procedures which he obtained in both Dublin and London. A member of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland, and the British Association of Sclerotherapists, Mr Lewis performs over 250 surgical and keyhole varicose vein operations annually.

He has been performing thread vein treatments for almost 10 years, with over 100 successful spider vein treatments carried out in 2014. With regard to his private practice, Mr Lewis has specialist interest in the treatment of circulatory diseases and in particular diseases of the veins. He also offers consultations and treatment for varicose veins including laser and radiofrequency ablation, surgery for complex or recurrent veins, foam sclerotherapy of varicose veins and microsclerotherapy for thread and reticular veins on the legs, face and other body areas.

Mr Lewis is one of a small number of full-time varicose vein practitioners in the UK and Ireland and the only one working in Northern Ireland. He was appointed as a consultant vascular surgeon in 2007 and in subsequent years helped oversee the introduction of keyhole varicose vein treatments in the Southern, Western and Northern Trusts. He played a central role in the development of Northern Ireland’s Regional Varicose Vein Treatment centres in 2017. He has since retired from NHS work, but continues to work in private practice in Belfast, Dublin and the North-West of Northern Ireland.

He enjoys a national reputation as an authority in the management of venous disease has been invited to speak on the expert management of varicose veins at the Royal Society of Medicine’s Venous Forum, The British Association of Sclerotherapy and Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland meetings on a regular basis in recent years. He has been a member of the board of The British Association of Sclerotherapists since 2021.

He offers keyhole treatments for thread veins, varicose veins and complications of chronic venous insufficiency. Treatments offered include Endogenous Laser Ablation, Foam Sclerotherapy, Microsclerotherapy and non-injectable treatment of facial veins. He has a large experience in the treatment of veins on the face, chest, hands, feet and in the management of pelvic venous disorders.
